Volunteer with us!

For almost 40 years your community music organization, Cascadia Music, has been run by volunteers!  If you'd like to volunteer for event set up, serve on planning or fundraising committees or serve on our board there are lots of ways you can join the fun and share the joy of music.  Tell us more about yourself on our volunteer application.

Or keep an eye out on volunteermethow.org for upcoming volunteer opportunities.

 Your Cascadia Gifts at Work.

Every year our gratitude board grows with thank you cards from students.  Hand drawn pictures from young musicians, thoughtful messages from grateful graduates and thank you cards from families we have served fill our board, and bring us so much joy.

Your contributions to Cascadia create opportunities for young and aspiring musicians to learn.  Your contributions create scholarships and an instrument loan program so that studying music is within reach for every family in the Methow Valley.

Your contributions employ teachers, bring visiting artists to teach and perform and your gifts continue the annual Holiday Concert tradition here in our community since 1986.

We are excited to be able to securely accept credit card donations of any size or as small as $5.  To make one-time donations, monthly or yearly tax-deductible contributions please visit our site run by Network For Good to donate.

From all of us at Cascadia Music: Thank you!

We are grateful to the Community Foundation of North Central Washington for creating the Give Methow campaign, and to all the Give Methow Donors who gave generously in 2021.

Together we raised over $9,000 for music in our community.

Thank you!

For our community:

Early in 2020, when it was clear that coronavirus would be around for some time.  Keeley Brooks offered to play for anyone who needed an uplift, or a birthday message.  She offered her time freely, or if people wished they could make a donation to a charity of their choice for her playing.  And indeed that is what Keeley has spent her summer doing: visiting people at their homes, at Jamie’s place, or for a birthday, socially distanced, outside with masks to offer some music and some company.

I thought, what a beautiful idea to offer music to connect people and asked Keeley to be a part of our project for Give Methow that year.  I offered to pay her for her time, or to make a donation on her behalf to a charity as she offered in her message.  She declined saying “Cascadia has already done so much for me.  I am happy to volunteer.”

When I asked if she would play something she found uplifting or peaceful she chose Meditation by Thais. I think you will agree the song she chose is perfect.

Thank you,

Rebecca Gallivan, Executive Director

Now more than ever, supporting our local musicians, teachers and music students is our first priority.  This year our performance schedule, our ensembles and educational outreach will have one goal, supporting the artists and young musicians who enrich our lives.  We are launching a directory of “Musicians of the Methow” where artists can help get the word out about their musical projects, and connect with other artists, venues, events and opportunities to get paid for the wonderful work they do.

We have also started compliling a directory of Music Teachers on our Faculty page.   We hope you will join our effort to support them and thank them for sharing the joy or music.

Last winter in 2020, a family got in touch with me because during the course of their regular piano lessons, they noticed that a small harp had been donated to our auction.  Could their daughter come by and play the harp they asked?  She was only about 11 years old and was starting her music studies with the piano, but had since developed a fascination with the harp.

For a while we couldn’t connect I thought because of schedules, or because I had missed an email from them arranging a time.  But soon they stopped by the office in person and mom admitted to me that the little girl was afraid to play the harp.

“Why are you afraid?” Her mom asked, after all they had been talking about it for some time.  And she seemed very interested.

“Because I am afraid I will love it.” She whispered.  “And I don’t want to love it, if we can’t afford to take it home.”

Her eyes sparkle with wonder when she talks about the harp.  It is magical. And her parents were very responsible and gentle about explaining the reality of the situation which is that the harp is easily worth over a thousand dollars and not in their budget.

***So we decided not to auction off the harp, but to add it instead to our instrument lending program.  And a few days later a grateful sparkling Julianna Grace came to pick up the harp and sign an instrument loan agreement.***

I don’t want to see another child have to have a difficult conversation with parents about the financial reality of being able to afford to pursue an instrument, or attend camp, or take lessons.

I want to see our community come together, as we do so beautifully to support this family and all other families for whom music studies might be out of reach.  I want to see us share the joy of music with everyone who wants to participate, with everyone who wants to come together in our community for the arts.

Your gifts make this possible.  If you are searching for a way to make a difference or to share the gifts you have, I can’t think of a better way than to share the joy of music.

Here is some inspiration for your gifts, made through our giving platform, network for good.
